GMRF: Lecture at 100 Noyes
GLOBAL MEDICAL RELIEF FUND
At 100 Noyes Hall this Saturday the 21st of October at 6pm.
HELPING INJURED CHILDREN FROM WAR TORN COUNTRIES including IRAQ.
Elissa Montanti and Kenan Malkic of GMRF, an
organization working to assist children who have suffered from war, natural disaster, or illness, will be presenting their stories. More specifically, Kenan will present his story of being a victim of war and subsequently an advocate working to help other young victims.
KENAN AS A BOY STEPPED ON A LAND MINE...
Kenan as a young boy stepped on a land mine in Bosnia. He lost both his arms and leg. Elissa was a medical technician who was moved to action after hearing the words from Kenan, "I am asking all God and merciful people to help me with getting prosthetics." The need expressed by the deprivation of a child brought on by the war in Bosnia & Herzegovina changed Elissa Montanti's thinking and life.
The GMRF is currently working with over 19 children from Iraq and reaches out both locally and worldwide in search of children in desperate need with little or no resources to better their condition.
GMRF has been brought here thanks to the University of Illinois and Amnesty International as part of our exhibition In War/At War: The Practice of Everyday.
THE EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
