Part Deux: Eastern Illinois Masters Students' Work

FLYER.jpg

This group of recent Eastern Illinois University Master of Arts students presents art created by Scott Aigner, Derek Clem, Judy Dethmers, Betty Farmer, Zach Huelsing, and Connie Richards. Richards' work plays off traditional needlecraft samplers but with contemporary subjects examining the roles of women in media and culture and the ways in which they are portrayed. Huelsing, Farmer and Dethmers are all showing various sized, representationally-based drawings in a variety of mediums. Farmers' work is about the struggle to make sense of a culture while resorting to reckless escapes. Dethmers' goal in her work is to leave the viewer with the knowledge that things are not happening according to plan by depicting the way in which new technologies begin to destabilize the fundamentals of life. Clem's work examines ways to depict the age old theme of conjuring up, representing and preserving memories through ethereal landscapes. Aigner has created an installation of abstract paper cutouts that are based on images taken from popular culture and his level of involvement in them.
